Your web servers, in a browser tab and in Claude.
YayFTP is a free FTP, SFTP and Azure client that runs in your browser. Use it yourself, or connect it to Claude and let Claude read, edit and deploy files on your sites for you. Either way, every file that gets replaced is backed up first.
Free. Nothing to install. The FTP client works without an account.
Two ways to use it
Same account, same saved sites. Work on your files yourself in the browser, hand the work to Claude, or do both.
An FTP client that lives in a tab
The two-pane layout you know from desktop FTP clients, without installing anything. Open it on any computer and pick up where you left off.
- FTP, FTPS, SFTP with passwords or key files, and Azure App Service
- Drag and drop uploads and downloads, with a transfer queue
- Several servers open at once, each in its own tab
- A built-in code editor for quick fixes on the server
- Link a folder on your computer to a site, and it is there next time
- Saved sites, with passwords and keys encrypted on our server
Works in any modern browser. Chrome and Edge add live local folders.
Let Claude work on your sites
Add YayFTP to Claude once. From then on you can ask for a change in plain words, and Claude makes it on the live server using the sites you saved.
- Claude lists your saved sites and browses their folders
- Reads the current version of a file before it changes anything
- Writes edits, new pages and new folders
- Copies files, or snapshots a whole site before big changes
- Backs up every file it overwrites or deletes
- Never sees your FTP passwords: you approve a sign-in instead
Needs a free YayFTP account and a Claude plan that supports custom connectors.
What you can ask Claude to do
Name the site and describe the change. Claude reads the live files first, then makes the change. Want to approve each one? Just say so.

Connect YayFTP to Claude
About five minutes, most of it finding your FTP password.
-
Save your site
Create a free account, open the Site Manager, and add your FTP, SFTP or Azure login. Connect once to make sure it works.
-
Add the connector
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom connector with the URL
https://yayftp.com/mcp. Click Connect and sign in to YayFTP when asked. -
Ask for a change
Start a chat and try: “List my YayFTP sites.” Then name a site and say what you want done.
Using another AI agent or your own code? The connector is a standard MCP server. See the connector docs for the tool list and API details.
Made for sites where the server is the source of truth
Shared hosting, WordPress themes, client sites from years ago, the PHP app nobody ever put in Git. If you change those by opening an FTP client, YayFTP gives you a better one, and lets Claude do the same work with the same access you already have.
- A backup before every overwrite
- The old version goes to
/.yayftp-bak/on your own server, blocked from public view, so any change can be rolled back. - Your passwords stay with us, not with the AI
- Saved passwords and keys are AES-256 encrypted and only decrypted on our server at the moment of connecting. Claude connects through a sign-in you approve and can be disconnected any time.
- Claude only touches what you saved
- It can reach the sites in your Site Manager and nothing else, and every path stays inside each site’s folder.
- Your files are not stored by YayFTP
- Transfers pass through to your server. We keep account details, your saved sites and a short activity log. See the privacy policy.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. The web app and the Claude connector are free to use. If paid plans are added later, they will be for extras, and the terms say how we would let you know.
Do I need an account?
Not for the FTP client: type a host and connect. An account lets you save sites, and it is what Claude signs in to.
Can Claude break my site?
It can only change files on sites you saved, and replacing a file needs an explicit overwrite. Tell Claude to show you each change before making it, and it will. If something still goes wrong, the previous version of every replaced or deleted file is in /.yayftp-bak/, and you can ask Claude to put it back.
Which Claude plans work?
Any plan that lets you add a custom connector in Settings. On Team and Enterprise plans, an admin may need to add it for the organization first.
Can I stop Claude from using YayFTP?
Yes. Remove or disconnect the connector in Claude’s settings. Access ends right away and your saved sites stay as they are.
Open it now, or connect it to Claude.
Free, nothing to install, and a backup behind every change.
